Infield Dirt Collection

Under home plate at the Hitters Ball Park is a small but growing collection of infield dirt from the great ball parks of the United States.  Wrigley Field,  Chomisky Park, Yankee Stadium, Kauffman Stadium, Franklin Covey Field and Miller Field at B.Y.U.  The small and the great are all a part of history and the memories of all baseball players is here. Under home plate is also sand from Utah Beach and Omaha Beach,  where young men who played the game as boys just a few years before, gave their lives so we can enjoy our freedoms today.

Since I will likely never visit all Major League Stadiums, if you wish to participate in the collection, let me know.  I have never had a grounds keeper refuse a small amount of some infield dirt when I have asked.

And while the fields change and maintenance  means new material added to the old, the fact is that Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Lou Gerig, Al Kaline, Bob Feller, Nolan Ryan,  Ty Cobb, Satchel Paige, Shoeless Joe, Jackie Robinson, Cy Young, Joe Dimaggio, Jackie Robinson, Ted Williams and many others, stood on that ground, left their blood, sweat and tears playing the greatest  game of all, Baseball.
