First Pitch Thrown at Private Ceremony

Event Marks Completion of Phase 2 Construction

June 20, 2004

Elizabeth "Betsey" Peterson started the activities with the "first pitch", thrown for a strike, from the recently finished pitchers mound to catcher Zack Peterson, catcher at the Hitters Ball Park Training Facility.  Ben Peterson followed by Hannah, Zachary and Sarah all threw "first-pitches" to mark the completion of many hours of work.   Michael Peterson, CEO said, "We are pleased with the results of the past 18 months of work to get the ball park to this point".  "We are on schedule, and expect Phase 2 which includes the completion of the out field grass installation by March 2005".

The history of The Hitters Ball Park goes back to 1999 when the field was home to cows, sheep and chickens.  The dream according to CFO Janice Peterson was to "create a  fun and safe place for teams and families to practice and play baseball."

Zachary Peterson, Assistant Construction Manager commented, "You would not recognize the place now.  It was a pasture, and now the infield grass is as flat as glass.  We brought in a special mix of grass, the same used at Franklin Covey Field, home of the Stingers, to get the right look and feel for the infield.  The skinned infield area is made up of 70 tons of a special Geneva Rock mix they have provided to hundreds of fields in the area for 20 years.  The irrigation system was designed to keep water off the infield dirt and delivered to the grass in such a way to keeping down times to a minimum.

Hannah Peterson, Assistant Grounds Keeper, described the pitchers mound, that is "build on a clay brick base and covered with high content clay from Childs Ranch and then top dressed with Diamond Pro, MVP calcinated clay to provide solid footing for pitching practice.  The batters box is built about the same.  She continued, "the key to a great playing field is regular maintenance" .  With the help of the other grounds crew, Benjamin and Betsey Peterson, they keep the field in top condition.
